About Metro Judo Club.

 

Metro Judo Club is a local community based club, located at a state of the art dojo in Greenwich. The club was founded in 1977 and has a wealth of experience, none more so than the senior coach, Mick Murphy. Supported by other coaches the club has produced two Olympians, Vicki Dunn (Sydney 2000) and most recently Gemma Gibbons (-78kg) London 2012 Silver medallist.
Come and join in the Judo Fun and get Judo fit.

  • For ages 4 to ancient.

  • The first session is free and if you like it you can join the club.

Affiliations

Metro Judo Club is affiliated to the British Judo Association (BJA) which is the governing body for the sport of Judo in Great Britain. The BJA is in turn affiliated to the British Olympic Association. The BJA website is britishjudo.org.uk

Queens Award for Volunteer Service

Metro Judo Club was recently awarded the prestigious Queens Award for Volunteer Service. The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK.

Club Operation and the Coaching Team

A management committee oversees the club, and it is operated by a team of volunteer coaches, a welfare officer, young volunteers and youth workers.


All coaches and welfare officers where applicable have met and currently maintain the following requirements:

  • Hold a British Judo Association License and Coaching Awards.

  • Completed the British Judo Association, Welfare Officer training.

  • Passed a Disclosure and Barring Service ( DBS) check.

  • Hold a Safe Guarding Certificate.

  • Hold a First Aid Certificate.


All Coaching Awards and Certificates, are renewed every 3 years.
